[Travelogue] Gardens by the Bay : Cloud Forest at Daytime | Singapore | sillyandordinarygirl

By Lasmarya Hadi Purwanto - January 09, 2018

So, I revisited the Gardens by the Bay again at the daytime, just the next day after the previous Gardens by the Bay at Dusk and 5th Anniversary post, and this time I was both in awe and in shame. (As for "why in shame?", I'm gonna answer it in the next post! :P)
Why in awe? Because I'm deeply amazed by how perfect this man-made structure is, and it is constructed so well that it will be a TOTAL waste if you don't visit Gardens by the Bay when you're in Singapore. I mean you can see how much attention and effort they put into all the details, and even the cooling system that is totally environment-friendly, and how it is built with the pure purpose of conserving our mother nature, and it is also a place with all these information about the biodiversity and the Cloud Forest is really really COOL! Cool, both figuratively and literally. Yeah, I really mean it. (and, I do realize that I used a lot of "AND", I guess I'm just trying to fit all the great things in one sentence, I don't want it to be interrupted by "period" haha)
The several first photos are taken on my way to the Cloud Forest, I just like them so much, that I can't stop myself from not posting it, #sorrynotsorry #it'smybloganyway :P Keep scrolling if you want to see the Cloud Forest part directly!)

So, here it is! Cloud Forest!

Once we enter the glass dome, we will be welcomed by this enormous waterfall that will leave you gasping in wonder... (yes, it did that to me, and to many other "squatting-as-low-as-you-can-to-fit-the-whole-waterfall-in-frame" people) and in chill, because I first thought that it would be very hot inside the dome under the blazing June sun, but I was completely wrong. It is comfortably refreshing indoor, thanks to the "eco-friendly" air-conditioning, and cool mist splashing out from the waterfall (don't worry, you won't get wet XD). It is said that the temperature is deliberately kept that way as to replicate the damp condition on tropical mountains which range from 3,000-9,000 feet above sea level (hence, the name CLOUD forest)

Cloud Forest itself is like a super modern dome-shaped green house, with the central column covered in variety of vegetation resembling a mountain and the artificial waterfall as the main structure. The best way to enjoy wandering around the "forest" is by taking the elevator up to the very top and begin the descent through the ramps that wind down, circling in and out of the Cloud Forest. Along the way, you will notice that the kinds of flowers and plants changes as you walk down, as to mimic the way it would be at different altitudes on a real-life mountain.
The highest level ramp was pretty scary for me >o< at first, I had to keep holding the handrail, but after a while, it was so much fun, that I went through it again from the top for the second time, and I won't mind going around it again for the third time, for sure!)

Ah, when you have reached the end of the descent, you will also discover a lot of other flowers, vegetation, and even pieces of art displayed on the ground floor, surrounding the cloud forest. And,  don't forget to stop by its theater, that will educate you more about the global warming and climate change, (they have this very cool screen on the floor!) and also some other displays showcasing how the Gardens by the Bay's operational system works. They are really cool! *thumbs up!
